i want to have a conversation with someone/people about how my tumblr ugly photos has mostly white looking folk on it and what it means to be UGLY from a person of color point of view because i was in my bed recently thinking damn… white folk ugly and poc ugly isn’t necessarily the same. and how white people and poc view their ugliness and how others view their ugliness is probably not totally similar but i do not know how to go about it, i don’t have any clear opinions or thoughts about it.. but i would like to have a dialogue about it. and eventually put it on my blog but at this stage it would probably feel too alienating and not put together so it’ll come off wrong if i just start saying this shit on the actual blog, you know?
that sounds so amazing because i think there’s definitely a difference tbh especially in accordance with body/facial structures DOES THAT MAKE SENSE idk this sounds good tho
this would be fab! also how european beauty standards can kind of be the divide between white ugly and poc ugly because even ugly white can still be considered better than pretty poc. that makes zero sense but i mean how even if a poc person has some traits that EBS have deemed attractive (skinny, thin nose, cheekbones) they can still get that condescending ‘pretty for a ____’ because they’re not truly white and can’t really reach that ultimate “white pretty.”
and how fat is strangely the common factor of ugly between the two when it comes to how ugliness is viewed (i don’t want to hear crap about how “POCs love/are more accepting of fat”—i still hear shit about being “too fat”) it always seems to me that society deems you ugly no matter what if you’re fat, regardless of skin color but no one ever really talks about how fat is negatively viewed in POC communities.
What she said. The standards are not the same for everyone and while some may find the process of submitting their ugly photos cathartic, some might find it a painful reminder of the negative messages they probably get everyday from the media.
